After 82 years of ownership by two generations of the Tracey family, The Eganville Leader has been sold. Current publisher Gerald Tracey signed an agreement in early February with Ray Stanton, President of London Publishing, and John Hueston, publisher of the Aylmer Express. Stanton’s company publishes newspapers in Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. The transaction becomes effective March 1, 2026.
Tracey, who’s been working with the Leader full-time for almost 54 years, added: “Ray has always held the Leader in high esteem and has been a trusted colleague and good friend. I knew he could be a potential buyer, but true to his character, he refrained from intervening while other parties were negotiating.” The newspaper’s daily operations will remain unchanged under the new ownership. Eganville is a scenic, historic community in Renfrew County, Ontario, nestled in a deep limestone valley along the Bonnechere River.
