Several magazines were recognized for excelling in editorial design during the Advertising and Design Club of Canada (ADCC) awards Thursday evening.
An imageless cover of
The Walrus — which took gold in the magazine covers category — simply reads, "This magazine contains an essay on freedom by a Canadian convicted of murder". The art director was Brian Morgan, with Mathieu Lavoie as illustrator.
For art direction of an entire magazine issue, design firm Underline Studio won for its work on
Prefix Photo (a publication of the Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art).
Design firm Faith got the golden nod for editorial typography in
Lush Magazine.
Earning silvers were Underline Studio for
Retail News; Aldo Group for art direction of an issue of
Locale Magazine; Max Abadian (art director Tanya Watt) for fashion photography in
Flare and Gabor Jurina (art director Eng C. Lau) for fashion photography in
Fashion; and Donald Weber (art director Barbara Solowan) for portrait photography in
Canadian Art.
