Mike Holmes: Canada's answer to Oprah?

Dauphin Media Group, publisher of Canadian Architecture & Design Magazine, plans to launch another title in the home renovation genre this fall. Holmes Magazine, fronted by famous Canadian contractor and TV host Mike Holmes (HGTV’s Holmes on Homes), will hit newsstands and mailboxes in November, with 75,000 copies being released nationally in stores such as Chapters Indigo, Shoppers Drugmart and Gateway. Cover price is $1.95 $4.95, while an annual subscription costs $23.50.

Everything that appears in Holmes magazine will have to be approved by the man himself.
The bimonthly title will focus on construction products and techniques, new technology available for contractors, and have a section dedicated to eco-friendly advice. Though the magazine will have its own editorial staff, all content will be approved by Holmes.

“There is no magazine like it in Canada,” says Charlie Ferguson, Dauphin's vice president, “The closest we have seen is Fine Homebuilding out of the U.S.” The title hopes to target the same audience that Holmes’ TV show attracts.

In terms of advertising, Holmes has already received a commitment from Moen, one of the biggest companies in plumbing products. Dauphin is also pursuing financial institutions, as well as home product retailers and manufacturers.
