It’s a Flare reunion at Zoomer. Vivian Vassos, Kim Izzo and Hilary Kelley have all joined Suzanne Boyd at soon-to-be-launched Zoomer magazine. The three chic ladies all worked under Boyd during her 10-year reign as editor of Canada’s leading fashion mag (1996-2004 ).

Vassos, who went from managing editor at Flare to editor-in-chief of failed TorStar celeb title The Weekly Scoop, will serve as executive editor.
Izzo is the best-selling author of the “Fabulous Girl’s Guide” series of books (co-authored with Fashion Magazine editor-in-chief Ceri Marsh). She was most recently the acting beauty editor at Fashion, before taking the deputy editor position with Zoomer.
And Kelley, who left her post as More’s fashion and beauty editor, is Zoomer’s style director.
Former Toro art director Alicia Kowalewski has also joined the Zoomer team.
Boyd’s appointment as Zoomer editor-in-chief was announced at a press conference last month. Moses Znaimer is the money behind the mag, which will be part of a multiplatform strategy to reach aging baby boomers.
In December, the former cable television mogul and media guru assumed control of Fifty-Plus.Net International Inc., and Kemur Publishing, publisher of CARP magazine. CARP is being rebranded and re-launched in October as Zoomer.
The mag currently has a paid circ of about 190,000—mostly members of the CARP association—but Zoomer will aim for a broader audience, with both single-copies and subscriptions available to non-members.
The CARP staff will remain on after Zoomer launches, Boyd says.
