Magaziners old and young gathered last night at the Supermarket in Kensington Market to celebrate the career of John Macfarlane. As part of the festivities, the former Toronto Life editorial boss performed as part of his R&B and blues band 3 Chord Johnny, which also features frequent Toronto Life contributors David Macfarlane and David Hayes. Editors, publishers, writers, art directors, photographers and hangers on enjoyed a wide selection of free hors d’oeuvres and booze while taking in the music and the conversation.
In the following video, Douglas Knight, president of St. Joseph Media, and Sarah Fulford, Macfarlane’s successor at Toronto Life, offer some kind words about the famous editor, before the man himself steps up to the mic and bids thanks to those he’s worked with over the years. The clip ends with 3 Chord Johnny rocking out on “Let the Good Times Roll.”
