Canadian Living hit hard by major layoffs
It was only last year that TVA Group acquired 15 of Transcontinental’s consumer magazines, yet the Quebecor Media subsidiary has already made changes.
On Thursday June 18, executive editor Doug O’Neill, senior web editor Jennifer Gruden, senior features editor Robin Stevenson, assistant art director Aimee Nishitoba, and associate art director Shelley Frayer, were let go from Canadian Living.
The publication also let go of senior marketing director communications and events Tracy Finkelstein, and senior marketing specialist Erin Quinn.
The digital team’s Ray Oster, and Melissa Morra, digital product director Andrea Kolber, digital project manager Krystal Wong, and Scott Carefoot, product manager of Hockey News were also dismissed on Thursday.
In total there’s a rumoured 25 layoffs. According to a tip, the dismissals fall in line with TVA’s plan to restructure and to focus on digital.
We received the following statement from Véronique Mercie, TVA’s vp of communications, on the changes at Canadian Living—and Coup de Pouce, which we learned lost three staff members during the round of dismissals last week:
Canadian Living and Coup de Pouce are very strong brands with extraordinary futures. We are proud to have acquired them and we intend to grow them even bigger.
About the internal changes, we reviewed our structure with the current team and made some adjustments simply to improve our efficiency.
