Publisher of Spacing magazine offers success tips for small publications
Matthew Blackett, co-creator of Spacing Magazine, recently created some buzz online about how to create buzz for small magazines.
Blackett led a webinar as part of Magazine Canada's webinar series, during which he addressed questions about how publishers can get their small publication noticed and how to make it grow.
Among the advice he offered was to host events, offer targeted editorial content, produce/sell merchandise related to the magazine's focus, seek sponsorships and team up with other businesses/organizations, or be a sponsor.
Blackett offers "examples of success" during the presentation to back each of his points.
The entire audio of the Blackett webinar can be accessed here.
Edra Sefton, manager of professional development and events for Magazines Canada, said the organization will be announcing the next round of webinars running from January to March. Single webinars are $25 for members/$35 for non-members, with the full winter series at $60 for members/$80 for non-members.
She noted the archived webinars are usually available only to participants and members for a couple of months before they are opened up to the public, however Magazines Canada decided to make the most recent webinar available immediately.
