Dauphin Media Group to publish NFL magazine; shifts focus to U.S.
THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED: Dauphin Media Group (DMG) has been named publisher of a new NFL Magazine set to launch Dec. 13.
A press release notes a collectors' edition will kick off 12 monthly issues published by the NFL in conjunction with DMG. The magazine will be available by subscription or on newsstands.
"Every issue of NFL Magazine will offer advertisers a unique vehicle for accessing avid NFL fans," said Kevin LaForce, NFL vice president of media strategy and business development. "We have more than 180 million fans who spend nearly two hours each week reading about the NFL; as the league's magazine, NFL Magazine will provide fans with unparalleled access to the game of football."
The U.S. arm of DMG, based in New York, will publish the magazine, and Quad/Graphics will be the printer. A website for the new magazine states it's $19.90 for 12 issues.
Meanwhile, DMG is shifting its focus to its American operations, after ending its relationship with Holmes Magazine and ceasing publication of Canadian Architecture and Design, noted Sam Yoon, DMG's senior vice president of business and legal affairs.
Yoon spoke about the NFL deal Friday morning. "We're really happy [about the NFL magazine], we're like the little small Canadian publishing company that could," said Yoon. "This is obviously a big deal."
He said "we primarily will be distributing it to the U.S", but added international subscribers will also have access to the new publication. When asked about future Canadian publishing projects, he offered, "Right now we're focusing on our U.S. operations, so whether we maintain a Canadian presence remains to be seen," he explained.
Currently, the Canadian distributor DMG deals with is Kable Media Services, he said.

So perhaps one of you Anonymous posters could ask why DMG should continue publishing without a contract? All businesses have legal issues at some time or another. Why is it necessary for Holmes Group to air the comments in a public forum? I haven't seen DMG stoop to that level. Read their press release.
The NFL is a very large corporation. They even admit they did their due diligence on DMG and were comfortable with hiring them to produce their magazine. I don't follow football, but my brothers and father do. This will be big.
Oh, and Anonymous 1, have you been at the same job your entire career or did you leave other jobs in favour of better ones?
