Note to readers: Change to message board format
Effective today we are making a slight change to the format of our reader comments. In the past, the most recent comment was posted at the bottom of each comment thread, meaning you had to scroll through all the comments to get to the latest reader missive. From now on, the most recent comment will appear at the top of each comment thread. We hope this is a more efficient format. Please keep those comments coming!

I don't even think this is an improvement for those who come here more than once to check the latest comments. They still have to start somewhere vaguely in the middle and search up or down to find the new comments they haven't read yet.
I can't see any advantage to this new format.
Thanks for your contributions. We believe the comment you refer to has now been posted.
A couple of points about comments: While we strive to monitor comments as frequently as possible, sometimes events and schedules delay monitoring and posting. Also, sometimes we like to meter out the comments over time rather than posting them all at once, which we hope encourages repeat visits.
Also, we don't automatically publish all comments. Many are deleted. We vet comments for the usual things: libel, hate speech. There is also a huge grey area when comments get personal. Sometimes they are fair comment, sometimes they are downright nasty. We try our best to weed out the downright nasty while leaving in the fair comment. No doubt we make mistakes.
We also tend not to post comments that contain factual information that we a) know to be untrue, or b) cannot verify.
Sometimes we may edit a comment, for example delete any nastiness, while keeping what we feel is fair and valid commentary.
We are most interested in comments that add value to a story, offer constructive criticism, or bring a perspective that may be missing. We are least interested in comments that contain personal attacks, slander, rudeness or really bad puns.
We'd be interested to hear comments and thoughts about best practices. We sometimes look at newspaper comment policy for guidance. We appreciate the community of correspondents who comment on Masthead stories.
