HDS Retail changing identity June 1
HDS Retail, whose retail brands include magazine dealers Great Canadian News Co. and the Relay chain of newsagents found in airports around the world, is changing its identity June 1.

Parent company Lagardere Services announced a change in the structure of the worldwide organization, which now becomes LS Distribution and LS Travel Retail. The latter division includes LS Travel Retail North America, LS Travel Retail EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and LS Travel Retail Asia-Pacific.

The change in structure "serves to accomplish two main objectives: aligning and clarifying our brand globally while reaffirming a desire to maintain strong operations in each local market," reads the announcement.

The retail store names are not changing, said Gerry Savaria, president and CEO of LS Travel Retail North America, based in Toronto. "Changes visible to the consumer will be very minimal," he noted.

The new website can be found at www.lstrna.com, however the former web address at www.hdsrna.com will work as well, he added.

"Implementing the name change within our organization requires tending to many details big and small; this will be managed internally as a mini-project with an objective to have the new identity fully in place by June 1, 2011," noted the company. "The above developments bring exciting times for the future of our group as they clearly align corporate brand and strategy."

HDS Retail—now LS Travel Retail—is a lead sponsor with Masthead in the Canadian Newsstand Awards, celebrating its 10th anniversary and now accepting entries.
