The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) has announced a new journalism fellowship for in-depth reporting on local, provincial, or territorial issues. The Geoffrey Stevens Fellowship for Political Reporting will offer one journalist or small team $3,500 to produce a significant project focused on a region that gets little to no coverage, or subject areas that deserve greater scrutiny. The application portal is now open.https://caj.ca/programs/awards/geoffrey-stevens-fellowship/apply/ Deadline is October 15, 2026.
The program was launched with the financial support from friends of the late Geoffrey Stevens, who was a political reporter, columnist, and senior editor at the Globe and Mail, held similar roles at Time and Maclean’s, and was later a columnist for The Record in Waterloo. Stevens was born on January 30, 1940, in London, Ontario, and died June 18, 2023, at age 83 in Cambridge, Ontario. “Geoffrey believed that the best days of journalism lay ahead.  This fellowship will help to bring that to fruition,” said John Laschinger, Chair of the Fundraising Committee.
