National Magazine Awards announce category and co-financing changes
The National Magazine Awards Foundation has announced changes to its 2011 categories and co-financing program to better reflect the evolving landscape of the journalism industry.
All written award categories will now accept digital submissions, with the exception of Best Editorial Package.
With most written categories now accepting digital work, the National Magazine Awards has reserved Best Digital Design and Best Multimedia Feature for digital-only submissions.
Conceptual Photography has been added to the Visual Category, described as being for any photograph or series of photos where an idea or concept is portrayed.
The Special Category has combined the award for Best New Magazine Writer and Best New Visual Creator to create one for Best New Creative Talent. The award will go to a written or visual creator whose work shows the highest degree of craft and promise in digital or print. It is open to students or contributors with a maximum of three years experience.
Revisions to the co-financing application to the NMAs has also been made. Written publications with a revenue of less than $250,000 and digital publications with a revenue of less than $25,000 are now able to submit as many entries as desired to the awards with the promise of financial aid from the National Magazine Awards Fund. Completed applications, available here must be handed into the NMAF by Thursday, December 9. Applicants to co-financing will be notified of their acceptance by December 16, 2010.
Entries to the 34th annual National Magazine Awards can be submitted now until January 14, 2011. The awards will be presented in Toronto on June 10, 2011.
The NMAF is currently looking for judges, contact their office to nominate a candidate to judge the 2011 National Magazine Awards.
