Western Living appoints new editor in chief
Transcontinental’s Western Living has announced the appointment of Anicka Quin as editor in chief.
Quin has been with the magazine since starting as an intern while completing her Master of Publishing at Simon Frasier University in 2002. Since then she has taken on many roles at the magazine, from developing Special Interest Publications to being managing editor since 2007, says publisher Kim Peacock.
Promoting Quin to EIC has been the plan ever since former editor in chief Charlene Rooke left the magazine in March to become executive editor, luxury brands at Spafax, says Peacock. “Anicka wanted to try out the role for a few months, which we were ok with,” she says. “I was happy when she recently came to me and said she was liking it. She was the person we wanted for the role, the only question was whether she wanted to take it on.”
Peacock says it is great timing for Quin to take on the role, as the magazine has posted double-digit gains each issue this year over the numbers from 2009. The September 2010 Designers of the Year issue is the first ever to be perfect-bound for Western Living.
