Remembering St. Joseph founder Gaetano Gagliano
 
Gaetano Gagliano, founder of St. Joseph Communications passed away on Thursday April 14, 2016.

Gagliano immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his family, first working for CP Rail, laying track. Two years later, Gagliano used his life savings to start St. Joseph out of the basement of his family home.
 
Today, St. Joseph is considered to be Canada’s largest privately owned communications company— it came in 7th in Graphic Monthly’s latest Gold List issue— a celebration of the top printers in Canada.

St. Joseph Communications publishing division is home to : Toronto Life, Fashion Magazine, Canadian Family, Mariage Quebec, Men’s Fashion, Ottawa Magazine, Quill & Quire, Totontoist, Weddingbells and Where Magazine.

In 2006, Gagliano was honoured with a New Pioneers Entrepreneurship Award by Skills for Change a non-profit that recognizes the achievements of immigrants. In 1998, he received the Order of Canada and an honorary doctorate from Ryerson University. He also received an honorary degree from St. Francis Xavier University.

God called Gaetano home peacefully, while surrounded by his loving family, on April 14, 2016 at the age of 98. He will be forever missed by his loving wife Giuseppina. Cherished by his dear children, Pina (Rudy), Frank (Domenica), Jay (Sandro), Joe (Mary-Ellen), Jesse (Joann), Frances (Carmen), Tony (Lina), Janey (Pierino), John (Rita) and Maria. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of 35, guardian angel and great-grandfather of 16.

He will be held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives, and many friends. Arrangements entrusted to Vescio Funeral Home Woodbridge Chapel (905-850-3332). Visitations will be held on Sunday April 17, 2016 from 4-6pm and 7-9pm at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church (150 St. Francis Ave., off Rutherford Rd. West of Weston Rd.).

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday April 18, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. Private entombment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all tributes and donations in memory of Gaetano be made to the Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation.
