After almost five decades as Managing Editor of La Voix Acadienne, Prince Edward Island’s only francophone newspaper, Marcia Enman will be retiring. The successful weekly publication has been thriving for 50 years. Enman joined in 1978 and watched it adapt to changing technology and the evolving needs of the francophone community. She plans to continue working one day a week after a new Managing Editor is hired, then retire this Fall.
“We’re kind of a collective memory of the last 50 years,” Enman said. “It’s a treasure for the community that comes after us, because they’ll know everything about the past 50 years.” Looking back, Enman said one of her biggest accomplishments was helping to create a financial foundation – the Jean H. Doiron Foundation named after the newspaper’s first editor – to support its long-term survival. Today, La Voix Acadienne operates as a non-profit with six employees.
