Community newspaper and flyer distribution ends at WFP
 
 
TC Transcontinental, the parent company of the Winnipeg Free Press (WFP), has announced that the newspaper is ceasing its free weekly community newspaper and flyer distribution. As of July 24, 2026, the Free Press will no longer deliver flyer inserts to 200,000 Manitoba households. July 24 also marks delivery of the final edition of the Free Press Community Review, which featured local community content. The distribution change will impact 817 delivery contractors. The Free Press Community Review employed four people. Two of those staffers will be offered jobs at the Free Press.
In June, TC Transcontinental began bundling its flyers and shipping them directly to Manitoba households via Canada Post, instead of using community newspapers as distributors. In May, competitor Postmedia announced it would no longer distribute flyers. This prompted TC Transcontinental to expand its direct-to-household flyer distribution nationally. More than 300 companies, such as grocery chains, place advertisements in these flyers.
