Edmundston Mayor Eric Marquis said the end of Infoweekend means the loss of a reporter who covered local events and municipal councils in the northwest. He added that the city may have to increase efforts to get accurate information out to residents without relying on social media, where misinformation is a concern. That community previously lost Le Madawaska, an independent newspaper founded in 1913, sold to Brunswick News in 2003, and closed in 2018.
