ABC announces focus on digital reporting
With the evolution of publications to digital formats, circulation audit companies are changing to keep up.

The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) is no different, recently announcing a stronger focus on digital reporting, with a new report format "that significantly expands how consumer magazines will report metrics for digital publications."

The ABC board has agreed to a new publisher’s statement prototype [click to download] "that provides media buyers with greater detail on print and digital magazine subscriptions and single-copy sales," noted ABC. Only one platform in a bundled subscription package and only replica digital editions will count toward total average circulation, said the auditor.

The new report format also requires publishers to begin reporting "key activity metrics" for digital magazines published via tablet apps and web browsers [if digital editions are more than two percent of total circulation and average at least 3,000 copies].

The board is expected to formally approve the new rules at its July meeting, with the new report format anticipated to be effective July of next year.

ABC also supports making issue-by-issue magazine reporting via ABC’s Rapid Report tool mandatory for larger magazines beginning Jan. 1, 2013, while only one publisher’s statement will be required per year, eliminating the June statement. ABC said it will also update the FAS-FAX report to show a total print and digital figure, beginning with the June 2012 report.

ABC's business publication division is also adopting the new Consolidated Media Report format, replacing the older Multimedia Report.

Meanwhile, BPA (CCAB) recently announced its new iCompli division, with one of its functions to ensure data reporting is according to industry guidelines.
