Canadian Newsstand Awards finalists announced
Thirty magazines from a full range of Canadian publishers have been named finalists in the 10th annual Canadian Newsstand Awards/Grand prix d’excellence en kiosque.
Leading the pack in nominations with three each are The Hockey News (one regular issue and two SIPs) and Zoomer. Several independent titles have also been nominated, including Fly Fusion; Garden Making; Legion; Pools, Spas & Patios; Spacing, This Magazine and others. Scroll down to see the full list.
A new category system was introduced for the 10th anniversary, leading to a 13% increase in entries. The new category system is organized by subject matter instead of circulation size. A special category for the growing SIP sector (special-interest publications, exemplified by the Maclean’s Olympic issue) and new titles was also included.
Winners will be announced at a special reception Sept. 26 at the Spoke Club in Toronto starting at 5 p.m., held in conjunction with the CMC Circulation Management Association of Canada fall seminar and social.
Mary Cosgrove, National Account Manager of The News Group, has been named Newsstand Marketer of the Year and will be recognized at the event. Among her many accomplishments, Cosgrove has helped her client Shoppers Drug Mart become the number one magazine retailer in Canada. The award is sponsored by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
Category winners will each receive a share of the $24,000 in credits towards promotional programs provided by awards sponsor LS Travel Retail (formerly HDS Retail)—a 30% increase in total prize money from last year.
Silver and Bronze winners will also receive recognition and certificates.
The Canadian Newsstand Awards are produced by Masthead.
