The Circulation Management Association of Canada (CMC) crowned its ACE Award winners during the MagNet conference at the Toronto Courtyard Marriott on June 8.




In the consumer paid subscription category, LouLou took the title. The magazine's goal was to build its paid subscription file and initiate a new Partnership Deductible category while increasing average transactional value and average number of transactions. LouLou partnered with Fruits and Passion to help launch a fragrance collection. The result, noted CMC, was more than 4,000 LouLou subscriptions with no refund requests.

Michael J. Fox won for his Garden Marking magazine in the consumer newsstand promotion category. Promoting with major retail chains such as Chapters and Loblaws, the summer issue sold 5,852 copies, topping other long-standing titles on gardening by a wide margin.

More magazine won for consumer offline promotion. Its objective to create a more cost effective DM package generated a net 6.6% increase in orders.

Transcontinental Publishing won the CMC Environmental Award for using biodegradable bags amongst other green initiatives.

The Caren King Award, recognizing an individual's accomplishments and encouraging them to reach new limits in their career, went to Amanda Beattie of Quarto Communications.

The Magazine Marketing of the Year Award went to Jon Spencer of Abacus. CMC president Tuppy Carnie applauded his work ethic, noting, "sleep is not an option, he might miss something." Spencer wasn't present due to vacation overseas, but attempted to connect with the audience through Skype before a pre-made video was shown.

At the completion of the awards, Carnie announced her term as CMC president is ending, with a new president to be decided this summer.
