Jessica Ross named top volunteer by Magazines Canada
The desire to "do my part" for the industry has earned Jessica Ross the Magazine Canada's Volunteer of the Year award for 2010.
Ross is the executive editor of Homemakers and VP/treasurer of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors; however, she also serves on Magazines Canada’s Professional Development committee and the MagNet Curriculum Taskforce, has made "invaluable contributions" to the Professional Writers Association of Canada’s team working on best practices for writers and editors, and has been on the board of the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors (CSME) for several years, noted Magazines Canada in a statement.

“Jessica is a smart cookie, puts in hours of quiet volunteering and has exquisite professional standards,” said Tom Hopkins, former editorial director of Avid Media and former Magazines Canada board member.
But how does Ross balance her volunteer time with her professional obligations?
"I do my best to plan ahead to ensure that everything gets done on time," she explained. "I do most of my volunteer work on my own time, but I find that easy to do given all the terrific people who give so much to this industry. I'm just trying to do my part."
