Best Health Blog Awards launched to expand brand awareness
Reader’s Digest-published Best Health is now accepting nominations for its inaugural Best Health Blog Awards.

The awards are separated into the four pillars of the magazine, Look Great, Eat Well, Get Healthy and Embrace Life and are aimed at increasing the profile of the young title, says Reader’s Digest senior web editor Kat Tancock. “We thought the awards were a good way to reach more of our target market,” she says. “We also wanted to expose readers to the good blogs out there, maybe inspire them to start one of their own.”

Tancock says Best Health doesn’t feel it is in competition with popular lifestyle blogs, because online is more about sharing the good than picking one site over another. “Competition online is different than in print,” she says. “On the newsstand people might only choose one magazine, whereas online people will read multiple sites, an article here and there. I think by sharing traffic it benefits everyone.”

Nominations for the Best Health Blog Awards are open until January 30, 2011 at Besthealthmag.ca/blogawards. Finalists will be chosen editorially and readers can vote for the winners online beginning February 16. Award winners will be announced March 31, 2011. Finalists and winners will receive a badge for their website as well as being showcased in the summer 2011 issue of the magazine.

Best Health is published seven times per year by Reader’s Digest and celebrates its third anniversary in 2011. Its website gets about 500,000 unique visitors per month according to comScore.
