Let me see if I have this right... the organization that is supposed to be promoting magazines in Canada, and represents Canadian magazines, has brought in a speaker, Lord knows for how much, to tell us we're doomed. Not the most motivating method I've ever heard. And the role in his company, which is of course a publishing company, is to keep his own organization moving forward, even though he doesn't believe in the product. Yup, sounds logical to me! C'mon folks, when are we going to stop buying into this world of digital "magic" and accept that all magazines will not be pushed aside for digital. Fashion or travel, or topics where the picture is part of the story, can't be done on a computer as well as in a quality magazine. Am I the only one who, after working on a computer 8 - 10 hours a day, feels the last thing I want to do in the evening is go back onto the computer? Good magazines are, and will always be a pleasure to read and enjoy. Try and put something like Food and Drink on a computer screen!

No Dawn, there are still a few people out here who have not bought off on the print is dead story. The real story should be, POOR print is dead. Yes, there have been magazines closing in this market. But when you look at them, the way they were run, the questionable quality, the poor content, and perhaps the topic, it only makes sense. Sadly, the closings are not over yet. But it really is more of a cleaning out of those who should not have been there to start. Newspapers running magazines is an excellent example. You simply can not run a magazine, hoping to win over consumers by spending as little as possible, which is the newspaper way. I stand by my belief that quality magazines will always have a place in the market.

The problem with Levine's presentation is that the products he touts as representing the future of publishing (1) suck, an (2) don't make any money.
