Editor Mark Reid officially launched the new web site with the push of a button, while publisher Deborah Morrison recapped the magazine's recent growth and new energy for popularizing and exploring Canada's history.

Retired CBC journalist Don Newman, who is also on the board of Canada's History Society, the magazine's publisher, emceed the festivities. The formalities started with a now-famous video clip from The Colbert Report, in which the American TV comedian lamented the demise of The Beaver due to salacious results when the magazine's name was entered into search engines.

Many Canada's History staff were in Toronto for the occasion, joined by magazine industry suppliers, writers, executives, and History Society board members including Dick Pound, Canada's representative on the Olympic Committee.
