Payments Business launches
Payments Business is a new magazine for the payments and transactions industry. President Steve Lloyd says he was surprised when launching the magazine that there aren’t other titles for this industry in Canada. “In the U.S. there are at least four magazines and several online publications which cover this topic,” he says. “However, their perspective doesn’t cover the unique regulations and challenges of the Canadian market.”

The magazine is published by Markham, Ont.-based Lloyd Media Inc., which also publishes Direct Marketing and Contact Management as well as the e-newsletter Click! Weekly. Payments Business first issue came in at 48-pages, with 16 pages of ads.

Lloyd says the target readership for the book, which will be published bimonthly, is financial executives or retail operations executives. Advertisers range from banks to providers of retail sales equipment, he says.

The controlled circulation for the magazine is 13,200, says Lloyd. He says launching the magazine now was more serendipity than anything else, with the opportunity to fill a void in the market becoming clear to the company. “The opportunity became apparent because payments is a function of importance the readers of our other magazines,” he says. “Through their editorial pages, we became more and more apparent of the huge changes going in on the marketplace. The growing editorial need was reaching a peak, and the associations we talked to practically begged us to start the magazine.”
