Up! Magazine
's romantically linked senior and associate editors have resigned from their positions at WestJet's in-flight magazine to embark on a trip that will take them from Vancouver to San Diego, before landing in Mexico, where they plan to stay "until the flowers begin blooming again back home." Eric Rumble, who was with the magazine for four years, and Candice Vallantin, who served for two, will both pursue freelance writing while they travel. Up! Magazine, published by Calgary's RedPoint Media, recently posted the jobs.

Mark Hacking
has been promoted to managing editor at Driven magazine. Hacking has been the magazine's automotive editor since February 2008 and as a freelancer, contributed to publications such as enRoute, Intersection, Nuvo, Razor, REV, Strut and a number of car and motorcycle magazines. The former editor of Performance Racing News takes over from Mark Moyes, who acted as Driven’s interim managing editor for the first half of 2009. Moyes is going back to freelancing and will also serve as Driven's editor-at-large.

A profile in Saturday's Globe and Mail revealed that Michael King, a former stakeholder in Kontent Media, is opening a gastro-pub called The Saint on Toronto's trendy Ossington strip next month. King also owns a burlesque house called Jezebel in the area.

King sold his 50% stake in Kontent to partner Geoffrey Dawe last year, but Dawe ended up having to shut the company down earlier this summer.

Following publication of the profile, King sent an unsolicited e-mail to Masthead, stating: "I can confirm that I have engaged KPMG and assembled a team to explore a number of options with regards to Kontent. As you know, FQ and SIR have enjoyed incredible success over the years, and despite the current challenges, I believe they should and will return to take their rightful position as Canadas International Magazines of Style."

When Masthead reached Dawe on his cell phone earlier this week, he said, "I'm not going to comment on that."
