Toronto Life leads pack with two Canadian Newsstand Awards

Toronto Life's Sept. 2007 cover, named Cover of the Year at the Canadian Newsstand Awards.
Toronto Life was the big winner at the Canadian Newsstand Awards yesterday, scoring wins in both the Best Issue, Large Circulation and Cover of the Year categories. The St. Joseph Media-owned city title's Oct. 2007 cover, featuring an illustration of Conrad Black as Humpty Dumpty, took the Large Circulation award, while the Sept. 2007 real estate issue was named Cover of the Year.

Both issues had great success on the newsstand—a judging component that's worth 50% of the final score in all categories—with the real estate issue moving almost 16,000 units for a final sell-through rate of 59%.

The awards took place at the Old Mill Inn in Toronto as part of Mags University.

The winners in other categories were:

  • Small circulation: This Magazine, Sept/Oct 2007
  • Mid-size circulation: Vancouver City Guide 2008 (Transcontinental Media)
  • Extra-large circulation: Hello! Canada, Dec. 31, 2007 (Rogers Publishing Ltd.)

Glenn Morgan, president and CEO of Coast to Coast Newsstand Services Partnership, was also honoured as the Newsstand Marketer of the Year.

The winners and all finalists can be viewed here. The covers will also be displayed this Friday at the National Magazine Awards.
