i've never heard of these publications until reading this article - and i live downtown...i think this was a good cut...especially if no jobs were affected (supposedly)

I've lived in Toronto for almost thirty years, and I didn't even know that this publication existed. "Delivered to all households in the city"??? I doubt that very much. Having been in publishing for nearly 20 years (in circulation, to boot) - I know that it's certainly possible to miss an occasional issue, but to miss every issue since 2008??? Not even Canada Post can screw things up that badly. My area must have been delivered by the "external firm"...perhaps they were just dumping the copies in the Humber River, or better yet - having a big old bonfire with The City of Toronto supplying the "fire wood". I think that perhaps the closure of this publication was a good idea. See...Rob Ford is actually capable of making good decisions.

Interesting that someone whose family fortune was made in the printing business targets printing contracts for savings.

Agree with #7. I have never, ever, in over a quarter-century of living in Toronto, seen a copy of "Our Toronto".

Sj #6 -- it's Anononymus #2 here. Question: Are you nuts? You first post is completely at odds with your second post (#6 on this list). Initially you cried bloody murder that Ford chopped the mags, and with the second post you not only failed to answer my question (posed in #2) but go into high moral dudgeon about Food & Drink's govt-funded crash&crab on indigenous private publishers. Contradict yourself much? And you're sad to see these City of Toronto pubs fold? What are you smoking? I want some. Oh, and you're a publisher yourself? Lord help us.

I think the total savings was $476,000 for all costs, not just printing costs. So that includes your Canada Post to every household in Toronto. No jobs lost probably because the editorial and art direction was contracted out.

I live in the city and I have NEVER received Our Toronto magazine ... not only are the costs for printing outrageous, there should be an investigation into the DISTRIBUTION of it.

To # 2 Carrying advertising or not, as a person with more than 25 years in publishing, the costs are way out of line! Shame on them if there was not advertising support. As for Food & Drink, as a publisher who competes against this magazine, which is a great publication, my problem is they use my tax dollar to subsidize a publication which takes money off my family's table. Not what I would call a level playing field. I would love to publish a publication knowing the bottom line is not a concern.

$ 476,000. for 6 issues (3 each)??? Fire your printer, and then have them charged for theft! As for an internal magazine.... why? That should have been online from day 1, if at all. And yet no staff cuts??? This is another classic display of how out of touch the political bureaucratic world is. This display of spending is so gross, I can't believe anyone would take pride in admitting it existed, and then being proud they stopped it. They should be ashamed that it existed!!!

Of course Ford wants to doesn't see the need and wants to kill them. He doesn't read or go to liberries.

So 6 issues for 476,000, or almost $80k an issue... I don't like seeing print decrease in any which way but this does sound like somewhere we were bleeding money that needed to be looked into

Have another coffee, Sj. Before we agree with you can you confirm that these two city mags did *not* carry advertising from the private sector? The LCBO's Food & Drink mag, has long irked private sector publishers for sponging up ad dollars that otherwise would flow to them. So, you tell me.

Yet another case of a politician who has NO idea of what he's talking about, making decisions for which they have no qualifications. What's next Rob? There must be furniture you can sell, or offices you can rent out? And of course, the standard "let's keep it alive by being online". Some number cruncher's answer to not paying for printing. Well done Rob, another foolish decision. Don't fix it, just kill it! And no job losses? How can that be? Did people do these magazines over their lunch hour?
