Toping the list is actor Ryan Reynolds, who the magazine raves is both aesthetically pleasing and charitable—he is on the board of directors for the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research.
“The whole purpose of the most beautiful and why we came up with it, is its an excuse and a great reason to really focus in on Canadian talent in a huge way,” said Alison Eastwood, Hello! Canada’s editor-in-chief. “Hello! is an international magazine and we spend quite a lot of time looking outside to Hollywood and getting in the homes of international stars and of course covering royalty. We do have a lot of Canadian content but this is really the biggest opportunity we have all year, to go all Canadian all the time. So that makes us happy.”
The most beautiful list has been a staple for the publication since 2009 and this year is used social media to elicit feedback from its readers and bring them into the process. More than 2,000 Canadian readers chose Shania Twain and Rick Mercer as most beautiful in a readers choice poll.
There are thirty Hello! Magazine franchises around the world and according to Eastwood, Hello! Canada is the most successful, having been in publication since 2006. The brand itself will be celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.
Hello! Canada’s third annual most beautiful gala takes place tonight at The Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto.
