Benjamin News shutting down after 97 years
Distributor Benjamin News will cease operations on April 4, 2014, affecting the jobs of 225 employees.

A privately-owned family business founded in 1917 by Charles Benjamin, a blind newsie, Benjamin News Group distributes magazines and books to 7,500 retailers in Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario.

According to president Paul Benjamin, deals have been arranged with other companies to continue serving the company's clients. These distribution outfits include Metro News, The News Group, Socadis, Metropolitan Distribution Services, and LMPI (Les Messageries de Presse Internationale).

Benjamin News is headquartered in Bois des Filion, north of Montreal. It has additional distribution centres in Qubec City and Cornwall, Ont.
