WestCoast Families gets facelift to create 'fresh, modern' look
WestCoast Families, a free independent regional parenting magazine based in Delta B.C., has received a facelift after being in print for close to 20 years.
The mag has a new logo, a "fresh" new cover, and updated style throughout, said publisher Andrea Vance. "We're also focusing on new, hyper-local content and repositioning ourselves as the lifestyle guide for families in the Greater Vancouver Area."
WestCoast partnered with an independent graphics designer, Krysta Furioso, who is also responsible for the magazine's layouts each issue. "The goal of the redesign was to create a fresh, modern look for our existing readers," noted Vance. "We wanted to be more urban and modern, in keeping with the families in the Greater Vancouver Area, and more relevant to the way lifestyles here have evolved. Our content refresh is to ensure we are providing information that families can only get from [our magazine]."
The magazine celebrated a relaunch at Science World in Vancouver recently, inviting readers into the facility [at a discounted rate] where there were activities for kids as well as prize giveaways, said Vance.
A new website for the magazine is expected this week. WestCoast is also redesigning its annual publication The Baby Guide and its website for April.

1. Good design honors content, and this cover doesn't accomplish that goal.
2. Good design doesn't cost more, it's about good decisions and this designer has made poor choices. The photograph simply isn't cover-worthy and the lines do a poor job of inviting a reader to explore the magazine.
I don't think Anon and I are being venomous, we're using snark to agitate for better design. Not every designer can do magazines well but they should at least strive.
Do you know this magazine? Have you ever actually held a copy? Do you know the market it serves or the competition? Why spew such venom? What purpose does it serve? Does it make you feel important? Get lives and keep your ignorant opinions to yourselves.
P.S. Don't hide behind pseudonyms.
