New for the 2010 awards was a Special Interest Publications category, as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze Designations for each award. Winning Gold for Special Interest Publications was Rogers-published Maclean’s Michael Jackson issue. The award was one of seven for the company during the ceremony, who swept the Large Circulation category and took Cover of the Year for Flare's September 2009 issue.

Other Gold winners were This Magazine for Small Circulation, Canadian Art for Mid-Sized, LouLou for Large Circulation and Châtelaine for Extra-Large Circulation titles.

The prestigious Newsstand Marketer of the Year award was also presented at the reception. This year's recipient is Scott Bullock, owner of the Circ3 consulting agency. The Newsstand Marketer of the Year award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated passion and innovation for a newsstand project.

Winning magazines in most categories receive part of the expanded $18,500 credits towards promotional programs at newsstands owned by HDS Retail.

Launched in 2002, the Canadian Newsstand Awards is a unique awards program that takes into account the title’s newsstand sales performance. Sales results are worth 50% of the final score, while the other 50% is based on qualitative factors judged by a panel. The judges represent key players in the newsstand mix: a retailer, a wholesaler, a national distributor, a circulation director and an art director.
