Fall season packed with publishing events
This fall offers a tantalizing schedule of professional development events for publishing pros in all departments: publishers, circulators, sales reps, editors, writers, designers, production folks and online pioneers.

PUBLISHING & SALES:
CMA’s B2B Conference, Sept. 17, Toronto: The Canadian Marketing Association has gathered a powerful panel of business-to-business marketers for this event at Ontario Place. Get inside the minds of those who control b-to-b marketing budgets.
The Ultimate Magazine Ad Sales Workshop, Sept. 30, Richmond Hill, Ont.: Sales guru Peter Ebner offers his unique take on the best ways to increase ad sales.
Magazines Canada Business Media Summit, Oct. 20 in Toronto and Oct. 27 in Montreal: Two keynotes in two cities, featuring Ad Age editor Jonah Bloom (Toronto) and Ian Bedwell, director of Dutch consultancy Mediastraat (Montreal).
Magazines Canada School for Advertising Sales, Nov. 6-10, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.: This intensive program features some of the top ad minds in the country, and takes place in a retreat setting where the mind can concentrate.

NAMMU 2010 Postal Rate Package Review, Sept. 16, Mississauga: Join the National Association of Major Mail Users for an in-depth analysis of the upcoming rate increases in all postal categories. Key players are typically in attendance.
Canada Post Publications Marketing Strategy Seminar, Sept. 22, Toronto: Join Canada Post reps, St. Joseph Media’s Darlene Storey (VP consumer marketing), and Michelle Gross, president of Zygoht Partners, for a look at the latest trends in subscriptions, audience engagement and consumer attitudes.

Canadian Freelance Union information meeting, Sept. 11, Toronto: Get up-to-date on the launch of this new union prior to the inaugural meeting of members scheduled for October.

FITC Mobile, Sept. 12-14, Toronto: From the producers of the FITC Design & Technology Festival (FITC used to stand for Flash in the Can), this new event explores all things mobile, particularly from a design and technology point of view.
The Future of Media: Business Models and more, Sept. 24, Toronto: A forum on where it’s all going, from a business point of view. Sponsored by The Digital Journal and featuring speakers from Rogers, blogTO, CBC, CTV and more.
DESIGN:
DesignThinkers, Nov. 3-4, Toronto: A full roster of Canadian and international speakers on the latest in graphic design, hosted by the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario.
Design City, Nov. 12-14, Toronto: At the International Centre near the airport, this expo for graphic designers is a “show within a show” at Graphics Canada, and is produced by Masthead’s sister title Design Edge Canada.
PRODUCTION:
Graphics Canada, Nov. 12-14, Toronto: The largest show in Canada this year for everything to do with printing, from the latest software to new production systems, including bindery and mailing. At the International Centre near Pearson Airport (technically in Mississauga).
ALBERTANS:
AMPA Annual General Meeting and Mixer, Sept. 24, Calgary: Don’t miss this gathering of the clan at the Wildwood Grill and Brew Pub.
