U.S. circulation spill into Canada declines
Total circulation of American magazines in Canada has declined by one-third over a 25-year period, according to a report by Magazines Canada, while average circulation per U.S. spill title has declined by one-half over the same time span. "Average spill circulation is now 13,435 copies per average U.S. issue," the report, based on data from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, states.
Only three US magazine titles crack Canada's list of top 100 circulation magazines: National Geographic (35th); Cosmopolitan (61st); and People (97th).
According to a study of consumer spending on audited magazines conducted last year by Michael J. Fox of Rogers Publishing Ltd., Canuck titles took in 38% —or $333 million—of the $870 million spent by Canadians on magazines in 2007.
