Torstar folds Desi Life
Desi LIfe, an English-language magazine aimed at the South Asian community in the Greater Toronto Area, launched by the Toronto Star in 2007, is no more. The February/March issue, already released, was the final one.
In a letter to contributors, editor Bageshree Paradkar wrote, "The magazine is not immue to the effects of this terrible recession around us, and it did not get the level of advertising support the company was looking for."
The bimonthly magazine was delivered through targetted home delivery and select retailers.
Parent company Torstar's fourth-quarter revenue was down $412 million versus $402 million the previous year, an announcement that by a management shuffle in February.
