Toronto Life leads National Magazine Awards finalists

The National Magazine Awards Foundation (NMAF) has announced the nominees for the 36th annual National Magazine Awards (NMA). Toronto Life leads the pack with 29 nods.

Among other categories, the mag is up for Magazine Website of the Year and Best Single Issue, along with a nod for May Jeong in the Best New Magazine Writer field for her story "The Cult of Pastor Song."

L’actualité is in the running for 24 awards, and The Walrus, which walked away with the most prizes including six golds at last year's show, rounds out the top three with 23 nominations.

The four finalists for Magazine of the Year are Corporate Knights, Cottage Life, Uppercase and Urbania.

Nine titles are nominated for the first time: Chez soi and Globe Style Advisor with three nominations each; Hazlitt with four; Infopresse, Le Must, New Trail and Nouveau Projet each garnering two; and Ottawa Citizen Style and Write Magazine with a nod each.

This year's show will see the first winners in three new categories for digital content: Tablet Magazine of the Year, Online Video, and Blogs.

The NMAF has also announced that Stephen Trumper will be awarded for Outstanding Achievement.

The awards will be handed out on June 7 at the National Magazine Awards gala in Toronto at The Carlu. Visit the NMA website to download a PDF of the complete list of finalists.
