New research identifies ePapers as biggest growth opportunity

Germany’s newspaper industry may offer guidance for Canadian publishers in their digital transition. Sourced from a recent Twipe Insights article, new research out of Germany highlights the importance of ePapers. Twipe offers solutions for digital edition publishing and analytics across Europe. According to the 2026 BDZV/Highberg Trends Survey of 94 German publishing executives, nearly 60% believe printed newspapers could disappear within the next 15 years!
“Treat ePapers not as a legacy obligation, but as a premium product, priced accordingly, invested in continuously, and positioned to readers as the future of their newspaper,” the report pointed out. By 2030, German ePaper subscriptions are expected to grow to about 40%, surpassing print at 35% for the first time. Publishers also identified ePaper subscription growth as the industry’s biggest opportunity, with 77% ranking it ahead of AI cost savings and premium digital content.
