Georgia Straight website blocked in China

Georgia Straight editor, Charlie Smith, reports that after writing a column describing the tenure of president Xi Jinping as a disaster, and accusing him of getting cozy with authoritarian thugs, the brand’s website was blocked in China. The magazine reported the news earlier this week.

The move by China was reported by greatchange.org, an anonymous organization that monitors censorship in China.

Smith also reports that this is not the first time that straight.com has been blocked in China. In 2008, the site was cut off after it published an article about China supporting the government of Sudan.
