Hockey lifestyle magazine proving to be a breakaway
Touting itself as “hockey’s only lifestyle magazine,” The Fourth Period releases its second issue at the beginning of October to coincide with the start of the NHL season. In addition to talking puck, the magazine also aims to bring the celebrity, GQ aspect of the sport to its readers, says editor in chief David Pagnotta.

Along with featuring the off-the-ice lives of players, the mag will talk with hockey-loving celebrities and bands such as Tricia Helfer, The Tragically Hip and Keanu Reeves, says Pagnotta.
The second issue of The Fourth Period will hit newsstands in mid-October.

Launched in June, the 80-page, standard size perfect mount glossy magazine is being sold across Canada in stores including Walmart, 7-11 and International News and in parts of the U.S. in shops such as Barnes & Noble. Operating with a paid and controlled circulation of 50,000 — which the publisher hopes to increase in the coming months — Pagnotta says the book has been met with a positive welcome. “The NHL and players love it,” he says. “We distributed a lot of copies at the draft in June and the response has been tremendous.”
