End of the line for Apple
Here's something different: A magazine that's been shuttered for reasons that have nothing to do with the economy.

As of April 1, the Calgary Health Region and 11 other provincial health authorities joined together to form Alberta Health Services. As a result, Apple, a free magazine that focused mainly on preventative medicine, was closed.

Editor/publisher Brian Cole lost his job as a result and has since moved to Manitoba to work for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. The AHS, meanwhile, has plans to launch a new health-related publication out of Edmonton this fall.

Apple had a circulation around 60,000, mostly drop-off at retail outlets, hospitals, doctor's offices and pharmacies. The final issue published was November/December 2008.
