Briefs & Bookmarks: TVWeek, Fashion, This

TVW
is rebranding as TVWeek with next week's fall season preview edition. A full redesign and new editorial direction will debut later in the Sept. 21 issue.

Fashion partners with ChickAdvisor for this year's ShopCrawl event, which will "take over" Bloor Street in Toronto on Sept. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets ($15) give consumers access to exclusive discounts, gift bags and more.

A first for Fashion, this is ChickAdvisor's sixth ShopCrawl. The co-presentation stems from an alliance formed between ChickAdvisor and St. Joseph Media in December.

This Magazine launches its Every Film is Political film screening series on Sept. 25 at the Tranzac in Toronto. First up is Wal-Town, an NFB doc directed by Sergeo Kirby that examines the corporate behaviour and social impact of Wal-Mart. The event doubles as the launch for the mag's second annual Corporate Hall of Shame issue.

The Ryerson School of Journalism, which produces the Ryerson Review of Journalism, celebrates its 60th anniversary with a cocktail party Oct. 4 and a panel series Oct. 5. The school is also accepting nominations for an alumni wall of fame.

Over at PWAC Toronto, D.B. Scott blogs about the Best Practices Guide for Canadian magazine publishers, editors and writers — why the guide matters, and also why it sits at the back of the drawer.
