The C.J. Group of Companies acquires SBC Media
SBC Media, a Canadian action sports lifestyle media company has made a few headlines over the past few months. In July the company announced that it had filed for bankruptcy and just earlier this month, staff from one of its publications, SBC Skier, found a new home at a newly formed publication, Forecast Ski Magazine.

Now comes the news that The C.J. Group of Companies has acquired SBC Media. The C.J. Group of companies is a privately owned media communications and graphics firm that also provides traditional lithography, digital printing, large-format production, screen-printing, interactive solutions, bindery services, fulfillment, logistics services and publishing.

The acquisition will include six magazines, two annual guides and all related websites, social media platforms and assets, which will now operate under the C.J. Oyster Publishing division of the C.J. Group.

Publications include: Snowboard Canada, SBC Skateboard, SBC Skier, SBC Wakeboard, SBC Business, SBC Ski & Snowboard Resort Guide, Snowboard Canada Women’s and SBC Surf.

Jay Mandarino, the company’s president and CEO is no stranger to the world of action sports, being a skateboarder himself and owner of the not-for-profit C.J. Skateboard Park and School organization in Etobicoke.

“At C.J. we have proven media expertise and a strong passion for action sports,” Mandarino said. “Our C.J. Skateboard Park & School is the world’s 4th largest not-for-profit indoor skateboard park, and the biggest of its kind in Canada.

SBC is woven into the fabric of skateboarding, snowboarding, skiing, wakeboarding and action sports across Canada. Our vision and leadership will ensure athletes, content producers and brands continue to have a prestigious national, multi-media platform to showcase their sports, lifestyles and products. We are very excited by the positive support we’ve received from the action sports industry and community about our acquisition. The SBC brands are alive and well!”
