Portal turns 30

Vancouver Island University’s student-run magazine, Portal, is celebrating its 30th birthday with its largest issue ever at 108 pages.

The title began life as The Stump and was produced by VIU’s creative writing club. In 1991, the name was changed to Portal and it became a student-run magazine. Today, it’s a full-colour publication with national distribution and is a member of Magazines Canada.

The anniversary issue includes scripts, art and book reviews, poetry and prose by students, as well as some feature stories.

The Portal magazine launch will take place on Zoom on April 30 from 7 to 9 pm.
