A decline in ad revenue leads to suspension of Backbone magazine

Backbone, a leading technology /business magazine, is being suspended after 14 years in the industry.

“Even though it created a strong and meaningful brand, a loyal readership, a powerful network of enthusiastic industry leaders, it is once again the decline of traditional advertising revenues that have made our publishing model unsustainable,” publisher and founder Steve Dietrich said. "I have a great amount of appreciation for all the supporters and contributors to the magazine and feel privileged to have met so many remarkable people and to have made a difference in Canada’s digital economy.”

The magazine aimed to provide resources to help business owners enhance their business through the use of technology. It was distributed independently through The Globe and Mail (104,000 copies total) as well as corporate alliances with Air Canada lounges, Industry Canada, HR companies/consultants, industry associations, individual subscriptions and trade shows.

Backbonemag.com will remain live and continue to provide readers with Canadian event listings, press releases, a resource directory, start-up tools, back issues of the magazine and blogs.

Any interest in purchasing the brand, website or events platform should be directed to Steve Dietrich at Sdietrich@backbonemag.com
