New hires at Chatelaine
[This story has been updated] The latest in a series of changes since Jane Francisco became editor in chief late last year has come at Chatelaine, with three new senior appointments to the editorial team.
Claire Tansey joins as food editor, Catherine Franklin as beauty and fashion editor and Laurie Jennings is now at the magazine as health editor and managing services editor.
Tansey previously worked as the food editor at Canadian House & Home. Jennings was also at Canadian House & Home, where she worked as senior features editor. Franklin comes to Chatelaine from Elle Canada, where she was beauty and health editor.
These appointments follow job loss at the magazine earlier this month. Six staff were let go, including the deputy editor.
Last month major changes in Chatelaine’s art team were announced, with three high profile hires in the department.
If the team shaping up at Chatelaine seems familiar it is because many also worked together at the now folded St. Joseph Media published Wish, where Francisco also worked as EIC. Newly named Chatelaine art director Sandy Kim worked under the same title at Wish. Jennings worked as managing editor and Franklin worked as style director. Thanks to the Masthead reader who pointed out these similarities.
Chatelaine is published monthly by Rogers and has a paid circulation of 553,000. It lost ground in both paid subscriptions and single copy sales, according to the latest ABC Fas-Fax report. It was down 7.4% in subscriptions and decreased 18.4% in single copy sales for the period ended December 31, 2009.

This move had better work for all concerned, because it's clear Rogers and this EIC don't care a lot about integrity and other strong professional business values.
