Business Edge founder and publisher Rob Driscoll has sold the recently suspended magazine to Lethbridge, Alta.-based real estate entrepreneur Ron Aitkens. The biweekly business title, with distribution in Alberta, Ontario and B.C., was last published in April, but a new issue is scheduled for Aug. 14.

Driscoll, who launched the publication in 2000, will remain publisher and manage the magazine's day-to-day business operations. Driscoll has also hired an editor, currently employed on a trial basis, but the rest of the work will be contracted out. "We have dramatically reduced our costs," Driscoll says.

Driscoll was forced to suspend the magazine in the spring following what he describes as a "stakeholder revolt." The magazine, which has a controlled circulation of about 160,000, had been losing money for about two years, Driscoll says.

Along with reduced staff expenses, the revived Business Edge will be one-inch smaller, thereby lowering printing costs. The publication will also have a slightly altered look and some new editorial sections when it re-launches.
