Western Magazine Award nominees announced
Vancouver Magazine, last year’s B.C. Magazine of the Year, leads the nominees for the 2009 Western Magazine Awards. The 42-year-old Transcontinental Media publication received 31 nods in 14 categories, including a repeat nomination for the provincial Magazine of the Year award, where it will go up against BC Business, British Columbia Magazine, Geist and The Vancouver Review.
Swerve, a weekly entertainment magazine distributed through the Calgary Herald newspaper, came in second for total nominations, with 12. Its editor-in-chief, Shelley Youngblut, was named the recipient of the event’s highest honour, the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 27th WMAs recognized a total of 42 magazines, with 22 titles scoring multiple nominations. This year’s awards presentation will be held on June 19 at the Renaissance Vancover Hotel Harbourside.
