Soon-to-launch Charity Times Magazine will donate half its sub revenues
After 15 years in the publishing industry, 13 with Glacier Publishing/Business Information Group, Joe Plati decided it was time to do something that meant a lot to him and others. That is why he has started Charity Times Magazine, a magazine about the Canadian charities, a bimonthly which will launch at the end of April or in early May.
“The industry has been lacking for the most part because there has been no one central place where they [charities and donors] can communicate,” said Plati.
Plati and his private investors funded the start-up of the magazine and have since partnered with the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and Imagine Canada. Once the magazine is running, revenues will be generated through subscriptions ($40) and advertisements ($4,000 for a full page). Half of all subscription revenues will be donated to a charity of the subscriber’s choice.
“What I am hoping to see is that this thing grows so that we can make large, one lump sum donations to those charities,” said Plati.
Examples of different sections in the magazine include; a kids section to teach kids on how to lead a philanthropist lifestyle. profiles on leading volunteers and columns from industry insiders, and space for charities themselves to get educate donors about topics, such as, the difference between a bequest gift and a cash donation.
Charity Times Magazine is marketed towards affluent Canadian donors, volunteers, non-profit organizations and non-government organizations.
“When you think about it, two-thirds of the Canadian population is involved in charity in some capacity. Whether it is volunteering, donating or work for a charity,” said Plati.
