As is often the case with custom magazines, the closures are the result of a change in marketing strategy at the client company, in this case Bell.
Jennifer Warren, the magazine's editor-in-chief, sent a note
to subscribers to her circle today annoucing the decision:
"It is with great sadness that I'm writing to inform you that the January 2009 issues of SHOW and EXTRA will be our last. The magazines have been incredibly successful and our client, Bell TV, has been thrilled with the results over the past two years. We appreciate your contribution to these award-winning publications. The decision to cease publishing was a difficult one and was taken due to a corporate change in direction for Bell's marketing communications."
In the official Spafax press release, Warren added:
“We are heartbroken to see SHOW and EXTRA come to an end, but are extremely proud of the outcome of all our hard work. We had a great time creating these magazines and keeping our readers entertained month after month,."
Show and Extra were published monthly and delivered to about
800,000 932,000 BellExpressVu customers, according to a February 2008 CCAB audit. Readership was 1.2 million, according to Spafax.
