Media Spike #12 – Hard Hitting Vocabulary!
Hello and thanks for coming. Has this ever happened to you? It occurred to me very recently and I wondered if I was the only one to experience this.
Someone said a new phrase. It hit me like a thunderclap. When I’m not writing to you, I’m often attending meetings at a prominent, international, speaking organization. These meetings help improve your Public Speaking skills and it fosters leadership skills. One of our members was commenting on another members’ speech that evening. Her accolades and critiques were well delivered and I was concurring with her observations.
She then said, I think you might find it helpful to consider doing XYZ as it will help you ’Punctuate Your Point’. That line stopped me cold. Punctuate Your Point. Your advertising needs to do exactly that. Quickly. Creatively. Efficiently. Tell the reader what they get by using your product or service. Make your message POP off the page. Fill eardrums. Enlarge eyeballs. Deliver it with panache and IMPACT. Whichever media you use, don’t give away your time at bat. In the words of former clergyman turned writer Basil King, Be Bold, And Mighty Forces Will Come To Your Aid.
THAT’S Punctuating Your Point.
Stay tuned.
P.S. Why should you use radio with newspaper ads? What’s the point of a poster campaign with exterior bus cards and ½ page magazine ads? Why don’t we just use the Internet for everything? And the answer is………coming soon to this same space.
